CUSTOM COLD HEADED FASTENERS

In production, an external force is applied to the metal at room temperature to form the metal in a predetermined mold, a method commonly referred to as cold heading. Cold heading is best used to produce standard and non-standard fasteners such as bolts, screws, nuts, rivets, and pins. Cold pier machining is extremely cost-effective for projects with limited budgets.

ADVANTAGES OF COLD HEADING

The advantages of cold heading are many, and it is suitable for mass production of fasteners. Its main advantages are summarized as follows:

  • High utilization rate of steel. Cold heading is a kind of less and no cutting processing method, such as processing rod hexagonal head bolts and cylindrical head inner hexagonal screws. By using the cutting method, the utilization rate of steel is only 25% to 35%, while by using the cold heading method, its utilization rate can be as high as 85% to 95%.

  • High productivity. Compared with general-purpose machining, cold heading is dozens of times more efficient.

  •  Good mechanical properties. Parts machined by cold heading method have much higher strength than those machined by cutting because the metal fibers have not been cut.

  • Suitable for automated production. Fasteners suitable for cold heading production (including some special-shaped parts) are basically symmetrical parts, suitable for high-speed automatic cold heading machine production, and are also the main method of mass production.
